My first visit from Inspección

Yesteday was my first visit and I think I did quite well. It was the first year I was working in public highschool without taking into account the pratice from IPA. Apart from the inspectora, my PAD was there too so I was very nervous with two teachers watching my class for the first time. They stayed from the morning and visited the 6 teachers of English in the highschool. My group was 1st 9 and they participated a lot and did not misbehave at all. The thematic unit was My Town and I started it the previous class. Therefore, I could only work with specific vocabulary which was "Places in town". I had my class prepared beforehand and, as I have only one period, I prepared a simple class. After writing the date and weather, students started unscrambling 10 places of town and then, continued drawing a city  from the whiteboard with those places positioned. After that, I gave them a true or false activity using there is/ there are (which was briefly explained the previous class). The students had to look at the city I draw in the whiteboard and count the number of places in order to answer. At the end, I made some questions in the whiteboard using "where" and the places we previously worked. They had to make connections and use previous knowledge because they did not know every word I wrote. I helped myself with gestures and examples when I explained and read the activity.
Every activity was checked orally in the whiteboard and I made students read every instruction or example.
I constantly monitored my students, gave each activity an example and made sure the understood clearly. Apart from that, I provided personal instruction if required and gave them as much time they needed. I could not conclude as I wanted with the last activity due to the lack of time. Therefore, I sent the last activity as homework. Time is a big issue if you take into account the different paces each student has. The inspector told me to watch the size of my writing in the whiteboard and the colours I used. Regarding the activities and transitions, they were simple but good and almost the entire class participated. Also, my monitoring was very good and I did good at explaining with gestures and giving short explanations when students asked related or not with the topic. I had to correct some thing in my libreta too butit was not a big issue.

I liked my class and it showed my student were engaged.

What I liked from my reflection classes:

ENTRE LE MURS

I enjoyed watching and discussing about the movie we started to watch in class. It was quite enlightening to see how everyone focused in different parts of the movie and had different points of view regarding students and the teacher´s behaviour. It is shocking to see how things can get complicated from one minute to another, simply by addressing a student´s attitude or behaviour. It made me think about how I talked to my students and the way I related with them.
It was good to see different backgrounds and types of highschools in order to imagine ourselves in the extreme situations in the movie so we can be prepared in any way to deal with them.
However, in France they have different ways to have teachers meetings and have different social issues than we can I assume. That changes significantly here.

What kind of teachers pupils should be?

In the following fotocopies we could reflect upon our performance in class. It was about being honest in what I want to get better and how I am doing now. It is paramount to put ourselves in a position, to see our flaws and to aim for improvements regarding our view of a good teacher.

  1. Perhaps you could describe what you discovered here and how it relates to the different paradigms we have seen?
